I usually try hard not to be too materialistic, but this post may divert from my usual path. When there's a product that makes my life easier out there, it's worth a shout out.

Deuter Junior Backpacks.
We checked several websites and parents of children from about ages 2- to 11-year-olds bought and loved these bags for their kids. So hopefully they'll get a lot of miles out of them!
All of the "Traveling with Kids" type websites recommend ways to let your children participate in traveling. One way is packing and carrying their own bag (well, to some extent). We wanted the boys to have carry-on bags that will function in other ways like school, hiking, overnight bags, etc. We didn't want them to be flimsy, plastic-ky, or too big, and we wanted to try and find something they could use for longer than a year or two.
Only time will tell, but we think these will last for a long time. We got one for Isaiah thinking he might not fit it now but would within the next year (and only pay shipping once, and not worry about how to get it to Asia:) but his fits too! He probably won't be carrying a bag full of books, but at least it doesn't hit his knees!

The backpacks also have a chest strap. It not only keeps the bag on little shoulders, it can also provide hours of entertainment for your 2 year old.
Then, because of Amazon's clever "customers who bought the Deuter Junior Backpack also viewed _____" marketing tool, we bought these as well...
Their very first Nalgene's. We'll see if they end up being too high maintenance ("sipper valves" and all) but I warned about the materialistic bent of this post and they match the bags!
In a couple months we'll be sure to show the bags in action. What else is there to do on a 15 hour flight (and that's just one of them!) with a 1 year old and 2 year old?

You WILL.NOT.REGRET. the nalgene sippy cups. We have a pink and a blue of course, and they are the only no drip sippy we've ever used. Plus, they're just cool.
The packs are so cool. I haven't dove in yet, but I've got a few more months than you. :)
(side note...will a regular size folder fit good in the backpack? seems like all kids packs are too small for normal size folders!)
What is it about wearing a back pack that makes even adorable todders about 10 x cuter?
April- Yes. We put (PURPLE!) grape juice in them and flipped them over in faith. Not a drop. They got thrown down by both boys several times in the car tonight and still no drips. Sippy cups are generally the main reason my kids will learn to drink from big boy cups from an early age. This one is giving me hope for non juice-soaked extra changes of clothes in the bags (for when you throw it in instead of sticking it in the side pocket).
Emilly- Yes. It should be documented and tested by mythbusters. (and will found to be true) We sat and laughed and laughed at how cute Isaiah was...like a teenage mutant ninja turtle or something. ADORABLE!

I love Anthony laughing in the background at his son falling backwards into the bushes... awesome. Now Aunt Gigi just needs to get them things to put in their new backpacks!! Maybe some awesome kiddie toothbrushes to brush off the juice in the sippy cups...hmmm...
Hooray for Deuter bags!!! We are big fans of course ;) Oh, and the video is sooo hilarious!! Both the boys are so cute.
