Isaac’s 1st Trip to Singapore

We took a quick overnight trip to Singapore. We drove ourselves there which was fun. Before when Anthony and I went by ourselves (before Isaac) we took super nice buses - leather recliner seats with a massage function, blankets, video games - the bus to Singapore is great! But, to save money we just drove…also we didn’t want other passengers to suffer through a 5 hour trip with a 1 year old.

Here’s some pics… Singapore is NICE. Like, Stepford Wives creepy kind of nice. Clean. Zero traffic. No one speeds. No one chews gum. It’s just kind of a bizarro world. The pic below is of a road where the amount of toll you pay changes depending on the time of day. It helps deter traffic at certain times. Every car has a card and the arches at the entrance of each toll road have scanners that read your plate number when you go under them. We never stopped or slowed down to pay a toll the whole time, but when we left we scanned our card at the border and it told us how much we owed. Oooooo.

And this picture below is a sign that lists the more popular malls and how many parking bays are available at each one at the moment…crazy! It’s definitely a unique place. If you love big cities but traffic is the thing you hate most in the world, move to Singapore!

One of the more known tourist spots in this nation-city-state-country thing is the Merlion statue down on the marina. “Singa” in Bahasa Malay means “lion”… so you see lots of lions around. How this half-lion half-fish guy got to be so famous is beyond me. There’s a smaller island just south of Singapore called Sentosa. If you go there you can stand on the Southernmost point of the Asian continent…kinda like Key West and the “continental United States.” Sentosa has an even bigger merlion! Isaac fell asleep in the sling on the way to the marina, but at least he was there!

On the drive back home today Isaac was going a little stir crazy in the back seat. At one point we turned around and saw this…

We have no clue how long he’d been playing peekaboo by himself…what a funny kid!

Wow! The picture of Sharon and Isaac standing next to the fish/lion statute is so fun. That statue is HUGE and I love that he's spewing water out of his mouth into the bay. And Isaac's peekaboo... hilarious. What a cute kid! :)
